Lights, Cameras – Dirty Dishes!

Written by Patti on September 30th, 2010

Good Morning, Darlings!

On Monday I was on the set of “Dirty Dishes” as the guest star of this fun series made popular on You Tube. My friend, Barry and his co-star, Cori Davenport invited me to come on and be a guest on the episode entitled “Open Faced Sandwiches With Two Faced Friends”.  You all might remember Cori as Kim Kolciac’s friend on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. We filmed in Cori’s palatial mansion in Gainesville, Georgia. The house even has an elevator! And of course, we dished – Cori had all sorts of delicious tidbits to share with us about being on reality television. I love to know what happens behind the scenes. And no, I can’t divulge….that would not be nice. Ok, a little divulgence. The producers of the reality shows make sure everyone is in serious party mode before they start filming. I guess it should come as no surprise that the chardonnay is flowing, but I never knew for sure. But now I do!

Barry, Troy and I board the elevator - going up!

My day started with a wakeup at 6:30 a.m., Barry picking me up at 7:30 a.m. and arriving on set at around 9 a.m. We filmed until after 10 p.m. It was fun, but it’s not always glamorous.

Favorite part? Sitting in the hair and makeup chair. I loved being fussed over and getting fake eyelashes, all the while dishing with Cori, Tracy our makeup artist and Richard, our director. Such fun! And since I rarely wear a bundle of makeup, it was even more special. An outfit was picked out and Cori lent me some jewelry for sparkle.

We had a script, but it was more like an outline with lots of improvisation. This made me a little nervous, but it worked out just fine. Richard’s professional direction and patience put us all at ease. And of course, there were bloopers. Hilarious bloopers. Note to aspiring food stars – never say the food looks like anything but food. I will not expound on this, but I am sure you understand. Tofu sloppy joes aren’t the prettiest things, nor do they taste that good, but one must soldier on.

My segment had me making strawberry shortcake with those fakey shortcake cups you get at the grocery store. You know, they tasted really good.

Richard is also a fab photographer. You can check out his site here. He is also the creator of an online series called Style Code. He is busy busy busy. And fab fab fab!

It was a good thing I loved the makeup because I believe I needed more of it than anyone else. But I didn’t mind. I love all those soft brushes and potions to make me look gorgeous.

We prepped the food, pulled the platters and placed the ingredients in a handy drawer. Filming was smooth as silk. Then it was time to film the confessionals. Oh, these were a hoot. I can’t wait to see how it all looks after Richard is finished editing. You know I will post it as soon as it is up. I can’t wait!

A million thanks to Barry and Cori for having me on their show and for Richard’s expert direction. It was the most fun day!
