Anatomy of a Dinner Party: a day in the life of a hospitalityaholic

Toast Your Sweetie

Written by Patti on February 9th, 2012

Good Morning Darlings!

Valentine’s Day is just SIX days away. Hubba Hubba!

Candy’s nice, flowers die.

Liquor is quicker! So, lets mix up some super yummy cocktails that will put your loved one in the mood. Or just drown your sorrows. Or toast yourself since you got rid of that two-timing, freeloading lump of a boyfriend. Or girlfriend. I don’t judge.

Instead of eating your dessert, try drinking this tempting libation to celebrate the day.

Cupid's Kiss!

Cupid’s Kiss
1 ¼ oz Frangelico
1 ¼ oz Carolans Irish Cream
¾ oz cherry brandy

Directions: Shake it up with ice and strain into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with an edible flower.

Love left a sour taste in your mouth for the holiday? Try this martini out for a truly tart taste.

Raspberry-Marmalade Sour
2 oz. Russian Standard Vodka
1 tsp. orange marmalade
4 raspberries
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz simple syrup

Directions: Shake well and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

And now some libations from our friends at Hendricks Gin, who have the most whimsical website. It will make you smile.

Any drink that is pink is sure to make you feel festive.

Pink Victrola (by Jim Ryan)
1 ½ parts Hendrick’s Gin
1 ½ parts fresh pink grapefruit juice
½ part fresh lemon juice
½ part simple syrup
1 barspoon real grenadine*

Combine all ingredients into a mixing container. Ice, shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a grapefruit peel between your thumb and first two fingers skin facing the cocktail and squeeze your fingers extracting the fragrant oils on top of the cocktail.
*Equal parts pomegranate juice and sugar heated until the sugar has dissolved.

Floradora (by Jim Ryan, variation on classic Floradora)
3 parts Hendrick’s Gin
1 part lime juice
1 part Raspberry Syrup
In a long glass combine ingredients and add ice. Give a good stir, top with ginger beer and give a gentle stir. Garnish with a raspberry and a lime wheel.

Can’t celebrate on the 14th? If you can wait until February 17th, pour yourself into a cab after tippling and head over to Tavern 99 after 11 p.m., when it becomes the Boom Boom Room. Say that with me – Boom Boom Room. How much fun is that? Tavern 99 is going old school as it opens a second concept – this time a late night funk bar called The Boom Boom Room featuring 70’s and 80’s music and a $9 menu beginning after 11 pm.

Boom Boom Room, Boom Boom Room, Boom Boom Room. I can’t stop saying it. I love it!!

xoxo, Patti
