Ormsby’s

Written by Patti on December 22nd, 2009

Good Morning, Darlings!

Saturday afternoon Eric and I ventured to the new Westside pub, Ormsby’s.  Owned by the folks who brought you Atkins Park and Aunt Charley’s (anybody remember Aunt Charley’s?)  It was a great time.

Tucked right under Room & Board at 14th and Howell Mill in the White Star Provisions building, it is adorable.  Very pubby. Lots of cozy booths and hardwood floors.  We settled into a booth and took a look at the beer and wine list. Very extensive. Well, the beer list is longer than the wine list.  But Eric decided on Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar and I chose a nice Chardonnay whose name I cannot recall.

For starters we opted for the fried calamari and shrimp and an order of the cheddar and scallion fritters with tomato basil cream.  I loved the fritters and Eric loved the fried seafood. Both super tasty.

Next, we decided on entrees. Eric ordered the Abe Froman Chicago Dog and I went with Uncle Lenny’s Shaved Beef sandwich. Both very very good.  At this point, Michael, the Service Manager came over to visit.  I had no idea that they had been open only one day.  The place looked great, the food was fab and our waitress, Amy, was very friendly. Go and say hi to Michael and Amy – they are so nice.

Anybody get the Abe Froman reference? If so, post your comments. Eric had to remind me, but it really made me laugh. If no one guesses, I’ll tell you tomorrow.

After eating, we went downstairs to take a look at their game room. It has a huge bocce ball court! Love it!  This will be the place we will all hang out in the cold of winter and the heat of summer. So fun!

After wandering around downstairs for a bit, we were joined by Service Manager, Michael, who took us through some secret passages to see the rest of the raw space ready for more excitement.

Go, you will love it!

xoxo, Patti
