Varasano’s Pizza

Written by Patti on December 5th, 2009

Happy Saturday, Darlings!

As today is the SEC Championship Game between my beloved Florida Gators and Alabama, I am feeling a bit antsy. I am ready for the game to start and the andouille sausage to go on the grill.  So forgive me if I seem a bit scattered.

Miss Tami from Running With Tweezers and I perched ourselves at the bar at Varasano’s Pizza yesterday for some cocktail testing.  Now, since Tami is blogging about this, I will not steal her thunder and I look forward to reading about all her suggestions.  But we did have some lovely beverages, these yellow beauties being the first.

Tony is Tami’s great friend and an ace food and fashion photographer, so he had such fun stories. We were the only patrons at the bar, so that added to the feeling of exclusivity. Plus, being with Tami is like being out with a celebrity – she knows everyone!

Look at this sweet treat Tony brought out for us – coffee meringues – so delicious!

But, if you remember from yesterday we were just talking about not drinking and driving so I had to cool it. I filled up on water and then ordered a couple of pies to take home to my sweet Eric. With Tony’s guidance I ended up with the Nana with added Hot Soppresata and the Caramelized Onion with Fennel Sausage. Now Eric still had to work by the time I got home so we put the pies in the warming drawer in the oven for a couple of hours. Hmmm….maybe not the greatest idea, but when we were ready to eat, they still really tasted good. I would like to go back and try the pizza fresh from the oven, so I don’t want to base a review on my overwarming the two pies.

Ok, so that’s all for today. Gotta get ready for the game. I have tons of chips, some wine, onion dip, andouille sausages and buns and moon pies for dessert.

GO GATORS!!!!

xoxo, Patti
